Christmas & New Year’s Eve at Casa de Campo®: The Complete 2026 Guide

May 7, 2026

By December, most Caribbean resorts are running some version of the same script: a tree, a dinner, a DJ, some fireworks. Casa de Campo® does something different. The festive season here has its own six-week calendar. The programme starts with a full tree-lighting ceremony on the main boulevard in early December, then builds through Christmas concerts and ballet performances. Finally, it peaks with a New Year’s Eve that runs across four venues simultaneously until well past 3 AM.

The result is a holiday experience that families return to year after year, booking the same villa, the same week, sometimes a year in advance. For multi-generational groups, our large group villa collection covers all 6+ bedroom options. And yet, hardly anyone has written about it in any detail. This late November to 6 January stretch is the peak window in our best time to rent a villa guide). This guide covers what actually happens, when it happens, and what you need to do now to secure a villa for Christmas 2026.

Why Christmas at Casa de Campo Is Different from Every Other Caribbean Resort

Casa de Campo® is not a hotel that decorates for the holidays. It is a self-contained community of around 3,000 acres in La Romana. Residents, long-term guests, and a social calendar existed here long before villa rental became a mainstream travel concept. The festive season reflects that. When the Christmas tree goes up on the main boulevard and the lights come on at Altos de Chavón, it doesn’t feel like resort programming. It feels like a town celebrating Christmas.

A town celebrating, not a hotel decorating

In practice, that distinction matters. The events are not hotel-guest-only affairs. The carol concerts at Altos de Chavón are open to all resort guests, villa renters included. So are the New Year’s Eve celebrations across the marina and amphitheatre, and the golf cart parades. You are not watching the resort celebrate. You are part of it.

The Dominican texture

The other thing that sets Casa de Campo® apart at Christmas is the cultural texture. Alongside the familiar European-inflected elements — the nativity scene, the carols, the champagne countdown — are unmistakably Dominican touches. Merengue bands play until the early hours, joined by local choirs and Three Kings celebrations on 6 January. For families who want their children to experience something genuinely different from a generic luxury Christmas, this is it.

The Festive Season Calendar: What Happens and When

The Casa de Campo® festive season typically runs from the first week of December through Día de Reyes (Three Kings Day) on 6 January. Below is the shape of the season based on recent years — specific 2026 programming will be confirmed by the resort from October onwards.

Early December — the season opens

The tree-lighting ceremony in Altos de Chavon is traditionally the starting gun. In recent years this has included a fireworks display, a live nativity scene, and concerts. The event is free to attend and draws a large crowd of residents and guests. For families with children, it is one of the highlights of the season. It is genuinely festive in a way that larger, more impersonal resorts struggle to replicate.

Shortly after, Santa’s Garden opens — a dedicated Christmas experience for younger guests that typically runs through Christmas Day. Expect letter-writing to Santa, activities with the elves, workshops, and magic shows. In 2025, performances by the Zeller Ballet Academy (“Once Upon a Time at Christmas”) were also part of the early December programme.

Mid to late December — the build

Then the pace accelerates through the second and third weeks of December. Altos de Chavón is the social centre of this period. The hand-built 16th-century village perches above the Chavón river, a 10-minute drive from the main villa areas. The village’s main piazza and amphitheatre host concerts, choir performances, and festive markets. Its restaurants (La Piazzetta, Chilango, Marietta) book out, and the cobblestone streets fill with residents and guests in the evenings.

Christmas Eve itself centres on family dinners, either at the resort’s restaurants or in-villa with a private chef. A choir traditionally performs carols during the evening; the night transitions into merengue and dancing with local orchestras. It is unhurried, warm, and considerably more intimate than any New Year’s Eve celebration.

New Year’s Eve — the main event

New Year’s Eve is the single biggest night of the Casa de Campo® calendar. What distinguishes it from comparable resorts is the spread across multiple venues, which means you can shape your night entirely according to mood and energy.

  • Minitas Beach — the RISE & RESET event in recent years has featured an open bar, DJ sets, and a beachside countdown. Younger guests and those who want to be near the water tend to gravitate here.
  • The Marina — DJ Kambax (in the 2025/2026 season) provided the soundtrack for the marina waterfront. The marina’s restaurants — most notably La Casita for seafood — offer special New Year’s Eve menus with advance reservation required.
  • Altos de Chavón Amphitheatre — the most dramatic setting: a 5,000-seat open-air amphitheatre above the river. The 2025/2026 season saw Black Coffee headline a major event here from 29 December through New Year’s. The fireworks display over the river valley at midnight is extraordinary.
  • La Romana Country Club — the more formal option, (members only) typically featuring a seated gala dinner, live band, and dancing. Suited to multi-generational groups who want a full dinner experience rather than a party setting.

Watching from your villa

Better still, fireworks are visible from much of the resort, which means guests who prefer a quieter night can watch from their own villa terrace. For families with young children, this is often the preferred approach — a private villa dinner, the fireworks from the garden, bed by midnight.

Where to Stay: Choosing Your Villa for the Festive Season

Villa selection for Christmas and New Year’s at Casa de Campo® deserves more thought than at other times of year. Your location within the resort shapes how you experience the season.

Proximity to Altos de Chavón and the Marina

If New Year’s Eve at the amphitheatre or marina is a priority, villas in the Golf Villa areas offer reasonable driving distance to both. The higher phases on the Dye Fore side work particularly well. The resort provides golf cart and vehicle transport throughout the festive season. However, having a villa within a few minutes of the action matters when you’re returning at 2 AM with a group.

Space for family gatherings

Christmas at Casa de Campo® tends to attract multi-generational groups — grandparents, parents, children, sometimes extended families of 12 or more. Larger estate villas with multiple living areas, a private pool, and outdoor dining space are significantly better suited to this than smaller three-bedroom options. Villas with a private chef arrangement (either included or bookable through Caribbean Paradise Homes concierge) are worth the extra cost over Christmas week. Cooking for 12 in a villa kitchen, while theoretically possible, is not the best use of a holiday.

Views for New Year’s Eve fireworks

Several villa positions at Casa de Campo® offer views of the fireworks without requiring you to leave the property. Elevated golf villas overlooking the course toward the coast are particularly well placed. If a private-villa countdown is part of the plan, ask specifically about sight lines when enquiring.

Dining at Casa de Campo Over Christmas and New Year’s

The resort’s restaurant network is at its most active during the festive season. Expect special menus, extended hours, and a social energy the resort does not have at any other time of year. Reservations are essential from mid-December — leaving this until arrival is a reliable route to disappointment.

Key restaurants to book in advance

  • La Casita (Marina) — the best seafood restaurant on the resort. The marina setting is particularly atmospheric over the festive period; the New Year’s Eve dinner here is one of the hardest reservations to secure.
  • La Piazzetta (Altos de Chavón) — the Italian-inflected restaurant in the cobblestone village. Christmas lunches and New Year’s brunches here have become a tradition for many long-standing Casa de Campo families.
  • Beach Club (Minitas Beach) — the New Year’s Eve menu typically runs to seven courses, with a champagne service and panoramic views over the water. Booking opens several months in advance and fills quickly.
  • La Romana Country Club — for formal gala dinners (members only) on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, this is the traditional choice.

For villa renters, the private chef option is worth serious consideration for at least Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day. CPH’s concierge team can arrange this. A private chef prepares a tailored menu at your villa, with full service. Many guests describe it as the single best decision they made.

When to Book — and Why Christmas Week Sells Out Fastest

The Christmas and New Year’s period is the most competitive week on the Casa de Campo® calendar. This is not marketing language — it is a logistical fact with direct implications for how you should plan.

Minimum stay requirements

The resort and its villa owners apply minimum stay requirements that differ from the rest of the year. As a general pattern:

  • 7 nights minimum is standard across most villa categories for the Christmas week (check-in 19–26 December) and New Year week (26 December – 2 January). Lately, however, villa owners are opting for a 10-night minimum.
  • Larger estates and the most sought-after villas typically require a 10-night minimum stay spanning both holiday weeks.

This means the Christmas period is best approached as a full two-week trip, rather than a short break. Guests who arrive for Christmas and leave before New Year’s, or vice versa, often find the best villas already gone by the time they decide.

How far in advance to book

The honest answer: 9–12 months in advance for the best villas. Returning guests book the most desirable properties before they are listed publicly. That includes the larger estates, prime golf or sea views, and the best spots for the marina and Altos de Chavón. January through March 2026 is the realistic window to secure a Christmas 2026 villa. By June, the selection narrows considerably.

Deposits and payment terms

For peak holiday weeks, villa owners typically require a non-refundable 50% deposit at the time of booking, with the balance due 60–90 days before arrival. Cancellation terms are stricter than for non-peak periods. Ensure that any travel insurance taken covers the full value of the villa rental.

Access fee

The Casa de Campo® access fee applies to all villa guests and is not included in villa rental rates. The fee applies per person, per day. For a full breakdown of what it covers and how to budget for it, see our Casa de Campo Access Fee guide →

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the Casa de Campo Christmas season start?

The festive season officially begins in the first week of December with the tree-lighting ceremony on the main boulevard. Events run through 6 January (Three Kings Day), with the highest concentration of activities from 20 December through 2 January. If you are visiting specifically for the festive atmosphere rather than a single event, arriving by 18 December gives you access to the full programme.

Do I need to book restaurant tables before I arrive?

Yes — make reservations well before arrival for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The most popular venues are SBD, Peperoni at the Marina, Beach Club, and La Piazzetta in Altos de Chavón. Caribbean Paradise Homes concierge team handles this as part of the pre-arrival process for all guests; it is worth contacting them the moment your villa is confirmed.

Is the New Year’s Eve fireworks display visible from the villas?

It depends on your villa’s position. Villas with elevated views toward the coast or overlooking the golf course toward Altos de Chavón generally have good sight lines. When enquiring about a villa for New Year’s, ask Caribbean Paradise Homes specifically about fireworks visibility. It is a straightforward question, and one we are happy to advise on.

How far in advance do I need to book a Christmas villa at Casa de Campo?

For the best selection, 9–12 months before your intended arrival. Popular villas for Christmas 2026 are filling now. If you have a specific villa in mind — or specific requirements around size, location, or amenities — contact Caribbean Paradise Homes as soon as possible. Do not wait until later in the year.

Can I arrange a private chef for Christmas dinner in the villa?

Yes. Caribbean Paradise Homes concierge team can arrange a private chef for individual meals or for the full duration of your stay. For Christmas Eve dinner or New Year’s Eve in-villa, this is one of the most requested services — and one where availability is limited, so early booking is advised.
