2025 TEETH OF THE DOG® RESTORATION PROJECT

Oct 14, 2024

LA ROMANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – Since its opening over 50 years ago, Teeth of the Dog® has become widely known as Pete Dye’s masterpiece. Indeed, golfers have long considered it the No. 1 course in the Caribbean. Now a full Teeth of the Dog restoration is set to make it even better. The dramatic seaside layout showcases all of Dye’s genius design hallmarks. Expect railroad ties, vast waste areas, peninsula greens and tees, hand-sculpted putting surfaces and a unique assortment of pot bunkers. The seven exceptional oceanfront holes are astoundingly beautiful. Indeed, they caused Dye to famously quip: “I created 11 holes and God created seven.”

Starting in January 2025, the Teeth of the Dog restoration project begins. It will update Pete’s legendary course with a full set of enhancements. These include re-grassing with Dynasty Paspalum — new state-of-the-art turf on the tee boxes, fairways and greens. In addition, crews will add three inches of sand to the fairways before seeding, improving playability and irrigation. Updates to the bunkers and cart paths complete the works.

Finally, the grand reopening of the Teeth of the Dog is scheduled for December 2025. For villa guests, the timing matters. The course will close for the duration of the works, then reopen in peak condition for the 2026 season. Meanwhile, guests planning a golf trip during 2025 can play Dye Fore and The Links. Both remain open throughout. For the full background on what the Teeth of the Dog restoration involves, see our complete Teeth of the Dog visitor guide. It also covers what the changes mean for your next round. Booking a villa for the reopening season? Our team tracks course updates closely and can time your stay to the first weeks of the restored course.
