For any golf group landing in La Romana and staying in our golf villa collection, the debate is inevitable: Teeth of the Dog or Dye Fore?
Both are Pete Dye masterpieces located within the same resort, yet they offer fundamentally different experiences. One is a historic “bucket list” legend, while the other is a sprawling, 27-hole modern giant.
To settle the Teeth of the Dog vs Dye Fore question for your 2026 rounds, here is the head-to-head breakdown. (For the full picture across all three courses, see our three-course golf guide.)
Teeth of the Dog: The Coastal Classic
Ranked as the Caribbean’s top course, “The Dog” is the reason Casa de Campo became a global golf destination.
The Layout: 18 holes. The “Seven holes created by God” are the main event—these holes play directly along the jagged coral coastline, often requiring shots over the turquoise Caribbean spray.
The Vibe: Intimate and historic. In fact, it feels like a walk through a private estate. The fairways are generally flatter than its neighbor, but the wind off the ocean provides a constant, invisible defense.
The Challenge: Precision. Small greens and the constant threat of a “water ball” make this a high-stakes round.
Logistics: Caddies are required here. The resort also strictly monitors pace of play, at 4.5 hours.
Dye Fore: The Cliff-Side Giant
If Teeth of the Dog is a scalp-focused masterpiece, Dye Fore is an epic blockbuster. It is also larger, louder, and visually overwhelming.
The Layout: 27 holes split into three nines: Chavón, Marina, and Lagos.
Chavón is the star, with holes perched on cliffs that drop 300 feet to the river below.
Meanwhile, Marina offers views of the yachts and the Altos de Chavón village.
The Vibe: Cinematic. It’s a “ride” through the mountains and along the river. The scale is massive—think wider fairways and huge elevation changes.
The Challenge: Nerve and Distance. At over 7,700 yards from the back tees, you need your driver to behave. The wind here swirls through the river valley differently than it does on the coast.
Logistics: Caddies are recommended but not always required. Because it has 27 holes, it is often easier to book large group blocks here than on the 18-hole Teeth of the Dog.
Teeth of the Dog vs Dye Fore: which is right for your group?
Choose Teeth of the Dog if… You have a smaller group that prioritizes prestige. If you only play one round in the Dominican Republic, it has to be this one. After all, the experience of the ocean-side par 3s is unmatched in the hemisphere.
Choose Dye Fore if… You have a large group (12+ players) that wants more room to breathe. The 27-hole rotation keeps things fresh over multiple days, and the panoramic views of the mountains and the Marina provide a different, arguably more dramatic, backdrop than the ocean.
