Step out the back door at Tropical Modern and the lawn opens onto a fairway with no fence between — the kind of garden where two families can take the same week off and stop crowding each other. The villa is set in Los Naranjos, one of the quieter neighbourhoods at Casa de Campo, with a fairway running along one side and palm hedges down the other. Five bedrooms, ten guests, with an included cook handling all the meals.

The early hours are quiet, with breakfast on the grass and the kids still asleep. No one's in a hurry the first hour. By midday everyone has split between the pool and the loungers. Lunch is at the covered palapa, which is large enough for half the group at a round table and the other half on a daybed across from it. The arrival into the villa is its own room — open to the sky, a reflecting pool down the middle. Copper chains hang from the eaves above, and on the rare afternoon it rains, the water comes down them in sequence.

Minitas Beach is a short golf-cart ride down the road, with chairs and watersports waiting on the sand by the time you arrive. The championship courses are a short cart ride from the villa, and Altos de Chavón a slightly longer drive past the river. Tropical Modern is the villa to book when the group cares about architecture as much as a beach trip and wants room to host the biggest dinner of the week.

Q: What does the cook prepare, and can he handle two families with kids?
The cook prepares all the meals at the villa: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with the waiter setting and serving. Menus are sent ahead so dietary preferences and allergies are confirmed before you land, and grocery costs are billed separately from the rental rate. Local Dominican dishes are a standard part of the rotation; international menus are equally easy to arrange. Two families on different schedules — kids' breakfast first, adults later — works without anyone in the kitchen between.

Q: Is Tropical Modern suitable for younger kids?
The villa works well for families with children of mixed ages. The back lawn runs unfenced from the fairway, with room for the kids to run within sight. The sunken jacuzzi sits separate from the main pool, so the adults can stay put while the kids play. One of the bedrooms is set up as the kids' room: a beach-themed twin with its own ensuite. Baby equipment (crib, high chair, bath aids) can be arranged through the concierge for an additional fee.

Q: Can the villa host a private dinner for the whole group, indoors or out?
Both. The covered palapa fits a round table for eight under thatch with ceiling fans, and the indoor dining room seats twelve at a square wood table with an oversized woven chandelier overhead. For a single-table dinner across the trip, the indoor room is the easiest option, especially if the weather is uncertain. For a more relaxed evening — drinks first, then dinner, then back to the daybed lounge across the same roof — the palapa is the right call.

Q: What's the open-air reflecting pool at the entrance?
The arrival into Tropical Modern runs through a central courtyard open to the sky, with a long, shallow reflecting pool down its length. A potted philodendron sits at the centre, and copper rain chains hang from the eaves above. On the rare afternoon when it rains, the water runs down those chains in a vertical sequence into the pool below. The space connects the wings of the villa — bedrooms on either side, the main living room and palapa straight ahead — so guests cross it many times a day.

RESORT FEE
All guests renting private villas at Casa de Campo Resort are required to register to gain access to the resort and its amenities. Registration fees are set by and paid directly to the resort:
• US$30.00 per adult, per night (ages 13 and older)
• US$15.00 per child, per night (ages 4–12)
• Complimentary for children under 4 years old
