Fitness & Wellness at Casa de Campo®: Gym, Yoga, Courts and Active Villa Stays (2026–27)

Oct 7, 2026Planning Your Trip, Resort Guide, Travel Tips

Most people arrive at Casa de Campo® planning to rest. By day three, the ones who feel best are usually the ones who moved: a padel match at 7:30am, a paddleboard across Minitas bay, an hour of yoga on the villa terrace before the cook serves breakfast.

The resort is rarely sold as a fitness destination, but it has more to work with than most Caribbean hotels. There is a resort fitness centre. The racquet complex is one of the largest in the region. There is a calm bay for paddleboarding and kayaking, and a spa with a full hydrothermal circuit for recovery. This guide covers what is available to villa guests in the 2026–27 season, what it costs and how to fit it around a holiday that should still feel like one.

The Resort Fitness Centre: Paid Separately

Casa de Campo® has a resort fitness centre, but it is not covered by the mandatory resort access fee that villa guests pay per person per night. Gym use is charged separately, so if training is part of your plan, budget for it alongside court time and spa treatments. Your Caribbean Paradise Homes concierge can confirm current prices before you travel.

The resort doesn’t publish a detailed equipment list or fixed opening hours for the gym, and both can change between seasons. Ask your Caribbean Paradise Homes concierge for current hours when you arrive, and go early. The morning before 9am is the coolest and quietest time to train anywhere on property.

For what the access fee itself covers, see our Casa de Campo® access fee guide.

The Racquet Center: The Best Cardio on Property

If you only do one active thing at Casa de Campo®, make it the Racquet Center. It is a terraced, three-sport campus with:

  • 11 Har-Tru clay tennis courts (fast-drying, forgiving on knees)
  • 4 padel courts, the easiest racquet sport for mixed-ability groups to pick up on day one
  • Dedicated pickleball courts, popular with multi-generation families
  • More than 25 pros and junior pros, a pro shop and floodlit evening play

The resort’s published 2026 rates (USD, excluding taxes) give a sense of cost:

TennisPadelPickleball
Court, daytime$39/hr$45/hr$45/hr
Court, after 6pm$49/hr$49/hr$49/hr
Private lesson with a pro$75/hr$89/hr$89/hr
Group clinic (min. 3)$45/person$39/person$35/person
Racquet rental$19$12$10/hr

Two booking rules worth knowing: courts can be reserved up to a month in advance, and night play needs at least four hours’ notice. Every player checks in at the pro shop first, and only non-marking court shoes are allowed. Running shoes slide on Har-Tru, so pack proper clay or all-court shoes. Children aged five and up can join kids’ clinics, which makes a morning on court one of the easiest family activities on the resort.

More detail on coaching, clinics and the Junior Academy is in our Casa de Campo® tennis guide.

Yoga, Massage and Training at Your Villa

The biggest advantage of a private villa over a hotel room is space: a terrace, a lawn and a pool deck that belong only to your group. That makes it the natural place for a session.

Through our concierge, Caribbean Paradise Homes arranges private yoga classes at your villa for beginners and regular practitioners alike. We can schedule them as a single session or a daily rhythm across the week. In-villa massage therapists come to you too, which is a good way to end a golf day without getting back in the cart. If you would like Pilates or a personal-training session, ask when you book. Availability depends on the season, and we will confirm before you travel rather than promise it.

If a private gym matters to you, a small number of villas in our collection have one. Use the Gym amenity filter on our villa search to see which, and add a heated pool if you want lap swimming early in the morning.

In recent winters the resort has also run a seasonal wellness pop-up at Altos de Chavón, with yoga, Pilates, cardio and mindfulness sessions over the Christmas–January period. Whether and when it returns for 2026–27 isn’t confirmed yet. Ask us closer to your dates.

On the Water: Minitas Bay

Minitas Beach is the resort’s base for non-motorised water sports. The bay is sheltered and flat for most of the day, so it suits paddleboarding even for first-timers and children. Kayaks are available on the sand too, and the rocky edges of the bay are good for an easy snorkel.

A 30-minute paddle across the bay is a full-body workout that doesn’t feel like one. Go before the Beach Club fills at lunchtime. The water is at its calmest in the morning, and you will have the bay largely to yourself.

For anything that needs a boat (diving, deeper snorkelling, sailing), head to the Marina instead. Our diving and snorkelling guide covers the options.

Running and Walking the Resort

Casa de Campo® covers 7,000 acres laid out around cart paths, and those paths are shared with runners, walkers and cyclists. That makes the resort a pleasant place for an easy run, with a few caveats:

  • Go early. La Romana is warm and humid all year. Before 8am is comfortable, but by 10am it is hard work.
  • Watch for carts. Paths are shared, and some have unmarked speed bumps. Run facing oncoming traffic where you can.
  • Avoid running after dark. The paths are unlit in many stretches. Save evening exercise for the floodlit courts.
  • Carry water. You will sweat more than you expect, even on a short loop.

The flat Marina promenade is a good alternative for a gentle evening walk, with restaurants at the end of it.

Recovery: The Spa’s Thermal Circuit

The Spa at Casa de Campo® is the Dominican Republic’s only Forbes Four-Star spa. It covers more than 2,000 square metres with 12 treatment rooms, and its hydrothermal circuit is made for recovery after a day of activity. The circuit includes a sauna, steam bath, vitality pool, cold-water pool, thermal loungers, a Kneipp walk and an outdoor pool.

The thermal area opens from 8am to 7pm and spa treatments from 9am to 7pm, with a café and juice bar on site. As a guide, 80- and 110-minute massages are listed at $315 and $425, plus a 10% service charge. Book ahead in high season. The concierge can reserve treatments alongside your villa booking.

A Sample Active Day

  • 7:00 Coffee on the terrace, then an hour of private yoga by the pool
  • 8:30 Breakfast from the villa cook
  • 9:30 Padel or tennis clinic at the Racquet Center
  • 11:30 Paddleboard and swim at Minitas, then lunch at the Beach Club
  • 15:00 Thermal circuit and massage at the spa
  • 18:30 Easy walk along the Marina before dinner

That covers cardio, strength, flexibility and recovery without the day feeling like a training camp.

Practical Notes

  • Golf carts are not included in villa rentals. You will want one to get between the courts, beach and spa. We arrange it before you arrive (see our golf cart guide).
  • The resort access fee is mandatory for all villa guests. Gym use, court time and spa treatments are paid separately on top.
  • Pack for clay courts and heat. Bring non-marking court shoes, two shirts per session, a hat and reef-safe sunscreen.
  • Book courts and spa time early over Christmas, New Year and February, when the resort is at its busiest.
